Connected Cars, EVs and Rivian

On top of Marshall Petaluma Road about 12 miles from home, this is my 2025 Rivian R1T. I love to travel the backroads of Sonoma County and the Sonoma Coast to take photos. Ability to go offroad, drive on sand, rocks or dirt is essential to get to my favorite places. And Connect+ is a necessity.

I’ve long been interested in everything automotive, and for the last 25 years, especially where mobile intersects with automotive technology. An article on my experience with the first LTE connected car in the US went viral ten years ago, and I have continued to closely follow autotech. All of this led up to my taking delivery of a 2025 Rivian R1T Adventure last August (after driving Mach-E, Teslas and another Rivian R1T offroad model).

Over the next several weeks, I will be adding content to this blog on EVs, connected cars and my new Rivian. Hope you enjoy, and please hit the reply button if you’re so inclined.

To start the conversation, enjoy this short clip by Rory Sutherland on whether electric vehicles are better than gas cars.
