Why I'm Skipping MWC — And Why One Right Meeting Beats a Week on the Trade Show Floor
The best part of MWC/Barcelona, Dinner at Ciudad Condal with friends and colleagues. Get there early!
A client asked if I’m going to MWC this year. “No, not this year.”
Not to avoid travel. I’ve flown halfway around the world for a single meeting where it makes sense.
Because they were the right meetings, with the right people and F2F was the best way to move things forward.
That’s very different from a dozen drive-bys — the business equivalent of speed dating.
Walking a convention floor with thousands of vendors may feel productive. It rarely is. You come home with sore feet, a bag of brochures and swag as well as a stack of business cards that go nowhere. Superficial conversations. No follow-through.
I’d rather lick a bus.
One focused, prepared meeting — with the right people and real intent — is worth more than a week at a trade show.
So no, you won’t see me in Barcelona this year. I’ll be home at Global HQ working on my book. (More on this later.)
But if you need me in a room to help you create something that grows your business, I’ll be on the next plane.
Still building. Still writing. Still connecting.
Just more selectively.
